Wellcare’s Percussion Muscle Pro Massager is one of the most recommended massage guns in Australia. But does that mean it’s actually worth the investment? For the most part, yes – the Wellcare Pro Massage Gun is a fantastic middle-ground between a cheap beginner’s product and some of the more expensive options available.

While Wellcare’s line of devices is geared toward long-term health, the Muscle Pro Massage Gun may not be perfect for those with clinical muscle massaging requirements. That said, it is extremely well-designed and comfortable to use, durable and boasts enough percussive power that most users will find the gun to provide excellent value for money. There are plenty of features too: six massage modes, five different heads and even an auto timer.  

What I Liked

• Build quality. The Wellcare Percussion Muscle Pro simply feels like a good product. It can clearly withstand the rigours of travel if someone wants it as a portable device. It is also quite an ergonomic gun, comfortable enough to be used for its maximum session of ten minutes.
• Speed settings. The gun comes with six-speed settings, each with its own unique vibrations. Most competitors around this price range only have the five-speed settings, giving the Wellcare massage gun a slight leg up.
• Massage power. It’s easy to get lost in the bells and whistles of a massage gun and forget the most important thing – does it give a good massage? The answer for the Wellcare Pro is a resounding yes.  

What I Didn’t Like

• It’s a little heavy. The Wellcare Percussion Muscle Pro weighs in at about 750g, which isn’t exactly heavy – but it’s not light either. If Wellcare could maintain the same power and versatility while making it more portable, this product could really rise to the next level. However, it does come with a carry case making it easy to move around in a backpack or carry-on.
• No smartphone integration. The truly upper echelon of versatile massage guns tends to come with a smartphone app that can track favourite settings, customise rhythms and so on. It isn’t a massive deal for the average user, but those with serious massage needs may prefer a more customisable product. 
• No USB-C charging. The Wellcare Percussion Muscle Pro uses an AC adaptor with a small DC cable. These are fairly commonplace (they often come with internet routers and security cameras) but aren’t as convenient as USB-C or even micro USB connections.

Is It Value For Money?

The Wellcare Percussion Muscle Pro sits in the middle ground for value, retailing at about $179. It isn’t readily available across Australia, with eBay and JB Hi-Fi the only two major retailers selling it, which may inflate its price somewhat. However, its price tag is more than reasonable given its excellent build quality, battery life and massage heads.

The Wellcare Percussion Muscle Pro is an excellent device. It doesn’t have a huge amount of standout features, but it excels in one area that’s the most important of all – massage quality.

Massage quality

A lot is made of whether a massage gun is powerful or not. While that’s all well and good, there’s not point in a powerful device if it’s painful to use and doesn’t actually provide any muscle relief. For muscle tension, tightness and other soreness, the Wellcare Percussion Muscle Pro is one of the best products on the market. The company uses proprietary technology to achieve a rhythm capable of providing quick relief for most everyday muscle issues.

Adjustable speed settings

The Wellcare Pro massage gun comes armed with six different speed settings: ranging from the pedestrian 1650 room all the way up to 2500 rpm.

Strong battery life

The company claims the 2,000 mAh lithium-ion battery can last around 2–4 hours, which is excellent for a device in this price range. In my experience, it lived up to this reputation, however it remains to be seen how long the battery maintains this capacity over years of use.

Massage heads

The Wellcare Muscle Pro comes with five heads, each for targeting different muscles. This makes it a solid option for full-body weightlifters who may need relief for a different muscle group (legs, back etc.,) on any given day.

Strong and comfortable design

An often overlooked aspect of a massage gun’s quality is how ergonomic its handle is. An uncomfortable product may relieve muscles in one area, but there’s not much point if it introduces pain into another area of the body (hands). Luckily, the Wellcare Percussion Muscle Pro has no such problems, boasting a well-designed handle that’s easy to use for ten-minute sessions without getting hand cramps.

My Experience Using It

My experience with the Wellcare Percussion Muscle Pro can be summed up in just a few words: no-frills and effective relief. This product lacks the fancy bells and whistles you might find on a thousand-dollar alternative, or on even some of the newer guns that spruik smartphone and Bluetooth integration. 

But it more than makes up for this “deficiency” by…actually doing what a massage gun should do. I don’t need a massage gun to send me daily notifications on my phone. What I do need is knots broken up, tension relief, strong battery life and a durable product that can be moved around without risk of breaking. The Wellcare Percussion Pro ticks all of these boxes with aplomb. 

In my experience, it is one of the best pure massage guns on the market. I didn’t need to spend hours setting it up, charging it, adjusting settings and so on. If this is what you’re in the market for, then it might be worth considering an alternative. But for me, I was happy to simply unbox the device, take it in my gym bag (where it fit easily) and use it after a fairly rigorous session with great results.

The Wellcare Percussion Muscle Pro comes in a nice black box. The actual product inside the box is stored in a carry-on case, which is a convenient addition that adds a layer of portability and protection during transit.

Overall, the box includes:

• A soft fabric carry case that is sturdy enough to keep the gun safe through most modes of transport. It’s nice and light too, making it excellent for transportation.
•  Five interchangeable massage heads each for targeting a separate body part. These are easy enough to chop and change.
• AC Adaptor. The Wellcare Massage Pro comes with an AC adaptor that plugs into a wall. This allows you to charge the product straight out of the box and is quite useful as not everyone will have the compatible adaptor lying around their homes.
• The actual gun comes in the box, usually with the product close to fully charged so you can get to using it right away.

What Others Are Saying

The Wellcare Percussion Pro isn’t available at a heap of outlets. Its main retailer seems to be JB HI-FI, which is where most of its reviews are from. Of the 20+ reviews, the massage gun boasts a 4.7/5-star rating, which is excellent and speaks to the product’s quality.

Largely, praise comes in thick and fast for the gun’s ability to be… a massage gun. One reviewer even goes so far as to say that the Wellcare Muscle Pro left them “feeling like tofu”. Others made a note to praise the build quality and emphasise that it is a durable and well-crafted gun.

The only negative review is a one-star assessment that suggests the battery life “didn’t hold charge”, meaning that the gun was essentially useless. It is likely that this product was an outlier and faulty from manufacturing, rather than it being a constant theme with this massage gun. It is something to keep an eye on though.
